Safe delivery checklist

IMPORTANT DELIVERY INFORMATION _ PLEASE READ

We deliver 90% of our glass orders on our own purpose-built glass racked vans giving us great control in ensuring your products arrive safely. However please note –

WE DO NOT PACKAGE THE MAJORITY OF OUR GLASS ITEMS OTHER THAN A PROTECTIVE BLUE FILM to help us reduce our carbon footprint.

ALL OUR VAN DELIVERIES ARE ONE DRIVER DROPS SO YOU MUST ENSURE SOMEONE IS THERE WHO IS FIT AND ABLE AND RESPONSIBLE TO BOTH CHECK THE PRODUCT ON ARRIVAL AND HELP UNLOAD FROM THE VAN. We will supply PPE of wrist guards and gloves when you handle the mirrors or glass if we are delivering.

For larger orders we will use A frames which are delivered on 18MT trucks with tail lifts. Please ensure you check you have access for this vehicle and consider where such an A frame can be stored till the glass has been installed. Also consider the floor the A frame is being placed upon as for example if the floor is gravel the A frame cannot be moved with a pallet truck from tail lift drop off point. .

WE WILL NOT NAVIGATE ANY STAIRS due to insurance limitations and only deliver to the nearest safe location inside your entrance point.

Step 1 – Check your access points and possible delivery issues in advance

On occasion customers have purchased a very large bespoke panel and not considered either the weight or size of the glass and whether they can get the glass either up the stairs or into the room itself that the glass wants to be installed in.

Before you purchase check and consider where and how the glass will be moved into the areas it is being installed Properly considered may mean you have to break your glass requirements into smaller panels to accommodate your access points or weight limitations.

Also consider where does the delivery van park and if your road is limited access at certain times of the day and whether you have you advised us of this in advance? Have you also considered whether it is safe to move the glass or does there need to be consideration of other another business or general public?

Finally consider the safest and easiest route to take the glass to the proposed storage location and ensure it is clear in advance as the drivers may refuse to enter a property if there are trip hazards or an area deemed dangerous to safely walk through.

As advised above if your order is large enough and warrants delivery on a pallet or A frame, have you planned where the glass will be stored before installation as once the A frame is positioned it cannot be moved again without a pump truck? Also consider the surface you will be placing the A frame onto when it arrives - if it is gravel for example the A frame cannot be moved other than the tail lift drop off point.

Step 2 – Consider your storage arrangements in advance

DO NOT STORE THE GLASS FLAT ON THE FLOOR.

You need to consider storage of the glass prior to fitting them to ensure they do not become damaged. This is very important as glass should be properly stored safely to both avoid potential damage or injury to others and we recommend you install your glass as soon as possible. You must consider if there is any health and safety risks associated with the storage of the glass prior to installation and take the appropriate measures.

Glass sheets are best stored on the edge of the panel, and we recommend you use a suitable floor covering to protect your glass while stored such as carpet or thick cardboard. Do not place glass onto solid floors like concrete as they will certainly break in such instances. The best solution is to lean the glass against the wall, but this can damage the wall leaving a line mark so again place some protection between the first panel and your wall to avoid this.

Common sense is required but it is best to have this planned prior to arrival of the mirrors to ensure the best decisions are made.

Step 3 – Managing tradesmen

Do not book tradesman same days as the glass arrive. Glass panels are fragile and even though every effort on our part is made to deliver your products without damage a few orders inevitably can be affected.

We appreciate it is in your interests to install your glass as soon as possible but we must make clear we will not accept liability for costs of tradesman associated with your installation and hence strongly recommend you take receipt of your glass before having your tradesman in for installation so you can ensure the order has arrived safely.

You are notified well in advance of your delivery date so you can plan your tradesman efficiently and in advance for the following day after your delivery.

Order and delivery process

STEP 1 - EMAIL CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ORDER

When you place your order, you will receive a confirmation of your order immediately via email to the address you uploaded. If you do not receive this, please check your spam folder, or call us as it is likely you accidentally entered an incorrect email, and this means all our correspondence will not reach you unless we are called to check and change this for you. A copy of this order is also placed in your online account section.

STEP 2 - EMAIL CONFIRMATION THAT PRODUCTION HAS CHECKED YOUR ORDER AND ACCEPTED THIS INTO PRODUCTION

Our production team will review your order and check any drawings etc and when they accept your order, you will receive an acknowledgement confirming your order is accepted by us and has now been put into production. Should there be any queries they will email you first and then attempt to call you. If there is any artwork to check they will send you a proof within 24 hours.

This confirmation should be received within a maximum of 4 hours of placing an order during working hours. If you have not received this confirmation, please call us on 01507 472600 option 2 as there may be a problem with the order and we have been trying to contact you.

This email confirmation will confirm your delivery week and courier

If the courier is FRAGILISTICS we will also confirm the days of the week they service your postcode area. Please note FRAGILISTICS are inflexible on delivery dates so if your area is only serviced on a Monday/ Tuesday they can only deliver on these days.

STEP 3 - DELIVERY CONFIRMATIONS

Our cut off for orders each week is 4pm Tuesday.

If your courier is made2measure we will confirm your delivery date and time Tuesday late pm for the following week via email. You will also receive an email on the day your order is loaded onto our vans as an extra confirmation your order is on track, and you are provided with a tracking option so you can see where the van is during the course of the day online.

If the courier is FRAGILISTICS you will have already been informed which days of the week they service your area. We deliver to Fragilistics on Thursday and Friday so you will receive a confirmation from us when this leaves us, confirming your order has now been shipped to Fragilistics. Fragilistics will deliver on one of the days indicated previously in your production confirmed email. FRAGILISTICS will confirm the final day and approximate time generally 24-48 hours in advance. You will also receive an email on the day your order is loaded onto their vans as an extra confirmation your order is on track and you will be provided with a tracking option so you can see where the van is during the course of the day by checking online.

If the courier is TUFFNELS or DX we will confirm the date these products are collected and provide a tracking number via email to you. Please understand we cannot provide further information once the goods are collected other than that which is provided online using the tracking number. Sadly, most courier services are understaffed in their customer service departments right now. Please note we cannot chase orders for you if shipped with TUFFNELS or DX until after 8 working days of leaving our factory.

If the courier is one of our pallet networks partners such as KIMES or EAST TRANS you will receive confirmation when your order has been collected and has left us. These deliveries take place with a tail lift and an 18MT vehicle. All deliveries are booked so that once the goods reach your local depot, they will contact you by phone to book your delivery time directly. Please ensure there is access and you have considered where it is safe to unload and store the delivery. Please note delivery takes 2-3 days but for more far afield destinations such as Cornwall or North Scotland can take 5-6 working days.

Delivery charges / areas serviced

If made2measure are the courier our standard fixed delivery charge for fragile or oversize items is £29.99 - £39.99 for the first 100kgs dependent on post code. After 100kgs a charge per kg is levied and again this depends on your location. Made2measure cover most of the UK mainland with our own vans and drivers for most of our products.

Samples and extras that can be sent with couriers other than made2measure are charged £19.99 delivery regardless of quantity.

We can also deliver nationwide if your products can be palletised via the pallet network. If your purchase can be sent via this option, it will show as a delivery option when you checkout. We use either a flat pallet or A frame to move your cargo safely. The price for these delivery options if available are displayed in the checkout section and again dependent on your postcode. As you buy more items, and the weight increases it becomes more cost effective to use a pallet or A frame and you will see the standard delivery price exceed these options to such an extent you may see these as a discount negative price as opposed only cheaper than standard delivery. You can of course select these options even if the delivery charge is higher than a loose delivery if you had a specific reason to do so. Please be aware pallet delivery will be on an 18MT rigid truck with a tail lift – please ensure you have access for such vehicles as if we have a failed delivery and have to put on a smaller vehicle all associated costs will need to be covered before we attempt delivery again.

Max size for a pallet delivery is 1100mm x 1100mm

Max size for an A frame delivery is 1500mm x 1190mm

AREAS WE CANNOT COVER OR WITH LIMITED SERVICE

We cannot service Northern Ireland or overseas with any of our glass products unless specific special arrangements can be made. Please note for overseas shipments we can make special packaging arrangements, but all goods are sold EXW and would include any replacements for any reason. Any insurance and liability for the shipment becomes that of the customer and then we can see if mutually agreeable terms can be met.

The following postcode areas in mainland UK have no service unless paying for a dedicated van or using the pallet network with a pallet or A frame service -

Isle of Mann / Canvey Island / Isle of Wight / IV / KW

LIMITED-SERVICE LEVELS - COURIER FRAGILISTICS

The following postcode areas have limited service unless paying for a dedicated van or using the pallet network with a pallet or A frame service -

TR / PL / TQ / EX / TA / SA / LD / SY / LL / CA / DG / PA / PH / DD / AB / NR

Please note some areas of PA / PH / DD / AB are not serviced at all - when you put your postcode into the checkout you will see if you are affected. We are always trying to extend our coverage so this can change regularly.

These postcodes are serviced by our fragile goods courier specialists FRAGILISTICS but with a limited service of only five items per order. Delivery into these areas is charged at £79.99 regardless of quantity. If you have a very large order, you could consider paying for a dedicated van delivery of £550 + VAT and if wishing to pursue this please contact the office on 01507 472600 option 2

Toughened glass can be safely used around heat sources such as kitchen hobs/ ovens and radiators. The maximum size of one panel is 2396mm x 1176mm so for longer areas you will need to buy additional panels for full coverage. Later on you will see the option of making such joins a feature of your kitchen.

NORMAL FLOAT GLASS HAS A SLIGHT GREEN HUE. AS SUCH IT CAN ALTER THE SELECTED RAL COLOUR AND IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE FOR WHITE AND CREAM PRODUCTS. LOW IRON IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN STADARD FLOAT GLASS. IF YOU ARE ORDERING WHITE OR CREAM ITEMS PLEASE NOTE IF YOU DO NOT SELECT THE LOW IRON OPTION THEN THE COLOUR WILL NOT BE AN IDENTICAL MATCH DUE TO THE BASE GREEN HUE OF THE STANDARD FLOAT GLASS. LOW IRON HAS THE “MAJORITY” OF THE GREEN HUE REMOVED AND IS THEREFORE LIKELEY TO PROVIDE A MORE EXACT MATCH BUT IT STILL MAY BE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT.

WE RECOMMEND ANY LIGHT COLOUR ORDER WHERE YOU WANT AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE COLOUR MATCH PLEASE SELECT LOW IRON. FOR DARKER COLOURS OR LIGHTER ITEMS WHERE AN EXACT MATCH IS NOT AS CRITICAL AS COST YOU CAN SELECT STANDARD FLOAT.

Please note that glass has a slight green hue to it so whenever we print or paint the glass we cannot replicate the exact colouration selected as we cannot remove the green hue inherent in the glass. Be aware that for 6mm the hue is barely noticeable but as you move to thicker panels this will become more prominent.

LOW MODULUS NEUTRAL CURE SILICON -

If using mirrors or glass in wet conditions or areas where aggressive cleaning products are used such as bathrooms or kitchens, you should place a thin protective seal around the product to create a waterproof membrane to protect the edges of the mirror from those products that could cause harm over time. The sealant must be low modulus neutral cure to avoid potential damage to the mirror itself.

The protective seal does not need to be a thick bead, a few mm is sufficient, and the product we sell is clear. There are alternatives in the market that offer the same specifications but are in a range of colors. The key is to ensure it clearly states on the tube LOW MODULUS NEUTRAL CURE.

Generally we recommend our highest specification mirrors for such applications as bathrooms and kitchen wet areas and this is 6mm low iron copper free lead free mirror. With the removal of these metals the chances of oxidisation and rust over time is greatly reduced.

MIRROR ADHESIVE - Solution can be used in 4mm/ 5mm / 6mm WITH NO SAFETY BACKING

If buying your adhesive elsewhere please ensure that it states MIRROR ADHESIVE on the product you are using. It is vital you check this as people have purchased aggressive adhesives such as "No more nails" in error and this actually eats away the mirror and protective paint backing.

IF IT DOES NOT STATE MIRROR ADHESIVE ON THE PRODUCT DO NOT USE IT REGARDLESS OF THE ADVICE YOU ARE BEING GIVEN!

If fitting with adhesive, the glue acts as a safety film if applied to the entire back surface of the mirror and if the mirror were to break, the pieces will stay stuck to the wall. Please be advised that if using adhesive, it is very strong and you will not be able to remove the mirror if required without breaking it and then scraping it off the wall. YOU MUST BOND YOUR MIRRORS TO A NON POROUS SURFACE E.G. MDF IS POROUS SO WOULD NEED TO BE EITHER PAINTED OR PRIMED FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING YOUR MIRROR INSTALLATION.

It is probably the strongest selection, so good for schools or areas with young children.

Each mirror glue tube we supply is enough to hang 33kg safely - the weights of all our products are displayed during the ordering process.

Visit our how to guide section for access to a downloadable PDF on how to hang with adhesive.

PROS
- Very easy to install
- Very strong and safe solution
- Cost effective

CONS
- Mirrors / glass cannot be moved in the future
- Difficult to replace broken panels as it is difficult to scrape broken mirrors off a wall safely and cleanly without closing the area off and there is a small chance you could damage a mirror / glass panel positioned next to it.
