Safe delivery checklist

IMPORTANT DELIVERY INFORMATION - PLEASE READ

We deliver 90% of our glass orders on our own purpose-built glass racked vans giving us great control in ensuring your products arrive safely.

However please note –

WE DO NOT PACKAGE THE MAJORITY OF OUR GLASS ITEMS OTHER THAN TO APPLY A THINK PROTECTIVE FILM to both help us reduce our carbon footprint and just as importantly allow customers the opportunity to check the condition of the goods during the delivery process itself.

ALL OUR VAN DELIVERIES ARE ONE DRIVER DROPS SO YOU MUST ENSURE SOMEONE IS THERE WHO IS FIT AND ABLE AND RESPONSIBLE TO BOTH CHECK THE PRODUCT ON ARRIVAL AND HELP UNLOAD FROM THE VAN. We will supply PPE of wrist guards and gloves when you handle the mirrors or glass if we are delivering, and you may want to consider wearing steel toe capped boots.

WE WILL NOT NAVIGATE ANY STAIRS as this is outside our insurance policy and can only deliver to the nearest safe location inside your entrance point.

Step 1 – Check your access points and possible delivery issues in advance

On occasion customers have purchased a very large bespoke panel and not considered either the weight or size of the glass and whether they can get the panel either up the stairs or into the room itself that the glass wants to be installed in. Before you purchase check and consider where and how the glass will be moved into the room it is being installed in.

Also consider where does the delivery van park and if your road is limited access at certain times of the day and whether you have advised us of this in advance? Have you also considered whether it is safe to move the glass or does there need to be consideration of other business activity or the public?

Finally consider the safest and easiest route to take the panels to the proposed storage location and ensure it is clear in advance as the drivers may refuse to enter a property if there are trip hazards or an area deemed dangerous to safely walk through.

If your order is large enough and warrants delivery on a pallet or A frame and you have selected this delivery option, have you planned where the glass will be stored before installation as once the A frame is positioned it cannot be moved again without a pump truck? Also consider the surface you will be placing the A frame or pallet onto when it arrives - if it is gravel for example the A frame cannot be moved other than the tail lift drop off point as a pump truck will not work on gravel. A-frames are delivered on tail lifts with 18MT rigid trucks – is there an access issue? Failure to advise this will result in additional costs.

Step 2 – Consider your storage arrangements in advance

DO NOT STORE THE GLASS FLAT ON THE FLOOR.

You need to consider storage of the glass prior to fitting them to ensure they do not become damaged. This is very important as glass should be properly stored safely to both avoid potential damage to the product itself or injury to others. We recommend you install your glass as soon as possible. You must consider if there is any health and safety risks associated with the storage of the glass prior to installation and take the appropriate measures.

Glass panels are best stored on the edge of the glass, and we recommend you use a suitable floor covering to protect your panel while stored such as carpet or thick cardboard. Do not place glass onto solid floors like concrete as they will certainly chip/ break in such instances. The best solution is to lean the panels against the wall, but this can damage the wall leaving a line mark so again place some protection between the first panel and your wall to avoid this.

Common sense is required but it is best to have this planned prior to arrival of the order to ensure the best decisions are made.

Step 3 – Managing tradesmen

Do not book tradesman the same day as the glass panels are due to arrive. Glass is fragile and even though every effort on our part is made to deliver your products without damage a few orders inevitably can be affected.

We appreciate it is in your interests to install your panels as soon as possible but we must make clear we will not accept liability for costs of tradesman associated with your installation and hence strongly recommend you take receipt of your glass before having your tradesman in for installation so you can ensure the order has arrived safely.

You are notified well in advance of your delivery date so you can plan your tradesman efficiently and in advance for the following day after your delivery.

Order and delivery process

STEP 1 - EMAIL CONFIRMATION OF YOUR ORDER

When you place your order, you will receive a confirmation of your order immediately via email to the address you uploaded. If you do not receive this, please check your spam folder, or call us as it is likely you accidentally entered an incorrect email, and this means all our correspondence will not reach you unless we are called to check and change this for you. A copy of this order is also placed in your online account section.

STEP 2 - EMAIL CONFIRMATION THAT PRODUCTION HAS CHECKED YOUR ORDER AND ACCEPTED THIS INTO PRODUCTION

Our production team will review your order and check any drawings etc and when they accept your order, you will receive an acknowledgement confirming your order is accepted by us and has now been put into production. Should there be any queries they will email you first and then attempt to call you.

This confirmation should be received within a maximum of 4 hours of placing an order during working hours. If you have not received this confirmation, please call us on 01507 472600 option 2 as there may be a problem with the order and we have been trying to contact you.

This email confirmation will confirm your delivery week and courier

If the courier is FRAGILISTICS we will also confirm the days of the week they service your postcode area. Please note FRAGILISTICS are inflexible on delivery dates so if your area is only serviced on a Monday/ Tuesday they can only deliver on these days.

STEP 3 - DELIVERY CONFIRMATIONS

Our cut off for orders each week is 4pm Tuesday.

If your courier is made2measure we will confirm your delivery date and time Tuesday late pm for the following week via email. You will also receive an email on the day your mirrors are loaded onto our vans as an extra confirmation your order is on track and you are provided with a tracking option so you can see where the van is during the course of the day online.

If the courier is FRAGILISTICS you will have already been informed which days they service your area. We deliver to Fragilistics on Thursday and Friday so you will receive a confirmation from us when this leaves us, confirming your order has now been shipped to Fragilistics. Fragilistics will deliver on one of the days indicated previously in your production confirmed email. FRAGILISTICS will confirm the final day and approximate time generally 24-48 hours in advance. You will also receive an email on the day your mirrors are loaded onto their vans as an extra confirmation your order is on track, and you will be provided with a tracking option so you can see where the van is during the day by checking online.

If the courier is TUFFNELS or DX we will confirm the date these products are collected and also provide a tracking number via email to you. Please understand we cannot provide further information once the goods are collected other than that which is provided online using the tracking number. Sadly, most courier services are understaffed in their customer service departments right now. Please note we cannot chase orders for you if shipped with TUFFNELS or DX until after 8 working days of leaving our factory.

If the courier is one of our pallet networks partners such as KIMES or EAST TRANS you will receive confirmation when your order has been collected and has left us. These deliveries take place with a tail lift and an 18MT vehicle. All deliveries are booked so that once the goods reach your local depot, they will contact you by phone to book your delivery time directly. Please ensure there is access and you have considered where it is safe to unload and store the delivery. Please note delivery takes 2-3 days but for more far afield destinations such as Cornwall or North Scotland can take 5-6 working days.

Delivery charges / areas serviced

MOST OF UK MAINLAND – SEE RESTRICTED SERVICE AREAS LATER

Made2measure cover most of the UK mainland with our own vans and drivers for most of our products.

If made2measure are the courier our standard fixed delivery charge for fragile or oversize items is £29.99 - £39.99 for the first 100kgs dependent on post code. After 100kgs a charge for kg is levied and again this depends on your location.

Samples and extras that can be sent with couriers other than made2measure are charged £19.99 delivery regardless of quantity.

We can also deliver nationwide if your products can be palletised via the pallet network. If your purchase can be sent via this option, it will show as a delivery option when you checkout. We use either a flat pallet or A frame to move your cargo safely. The price for these delivery options if available are displayed in the checkout section and again dependent on your postcode. As you buy more items, and the weight increases it becomes more cost effective to use a pallet or A frame and you will see the standard delivery price exceed these options to such an extent you may see these as a discount negative price as opposed only cheaper than standard delivery. You can of course select these options even if the delivery charge is higher than a loose delivery if you had a specific reason to do so. Please be aware pallet delivery will be on an 18MT rigid truck with a tail lift – please ensure you have access for such vehicles as if we have a failed delivery and must put on a smaller vehicle all associated costs will need to be covered before we attempt delivery again.

Max size for a pallet delivery is 1100mm x 1100mm

Max size for an A frame delivery is 1500mm x 1190mm

AREAS WE CANNOT COVER OR WITH LIMITED SERVICE

We cannot service Northern Ireland or overseas with any of our mirror products unless specific special arrangements can be made. As such unless your order is over £2000 in value, we cannot offer this service. If your order meets this monetary value requirement is met, please contact sales@made2measure.co.uk with full details of what you are looking to purchase and method of collection. Please note for overseas shipments we can make special packaging arrangements, but all goods are sold EXW and would include any replacements for any reason. Any insurance and liability for the shipment becomes that of the customer and then we can see if mutually agreeable terms can be met.

The following postcode areas in mainland UK have no service unless paying for a dedicated van or using the pallet network with a pallet or A frame service -

Isle of Mann / Canvey Island / Isle of Wight / IV / KW

LIMITED SERVICE LEVELS - COURIER FRAGILISTICS

The following postcode areas have limited service unless paying for a dedicated van or using the pallet network with a pallet or A frame service -

TR / PL / TQ / EX / TA / SA / LD / SY / LL / CA / DG / PA / PH / DD / AB / NR

Please note some areas of PA / PH / DD / AB are not serviced at all - when you put your postcode into the checkout you will see if you are affected. We are always trying to extend our coverage so this can change regularly.

These postcodes are serviced by our fragile goods courier specialists FRAGILISTICS but with a limited service of only five items per order. Delivery into these areas is charged at £79.99 regardless of quantity. If you have a very large order, you could consider paying for a dedicated van delivery of £550 + VAT and if wishing to pursue this please contact the office on 01507 472600 option 2.

Express Delivery Options

Express delivery is very difficult to quote fairly and so much is dependent on our current order levels, the current planned routes and weight availability, the delivery options available which are determined by size and type of product, the size of the order and finally the product selection itself. As such you may enquire about the options for any product you are interested in as the key consideration here is we want to help if we can but below are indicative "express manufacturing" times for the key products that we offer this service.

CUT TO SIZE SILVER / TINTED / ANTIQUE MIRRORS* - 24hrs

*(Barcelona, Foxed Mist, Florence and Stainforth are hand made antique mirror styles and take 5 days to manufacture)

TOUGHENED GLASS WITH NO ADDITIONAL FINISHES – 48 hrs

TOUGHENED MIRRORS - 72hrs

STANDARD FRAMED PRODUCTS INCLUDING STOCK- 24hrs

PAINTED/ PRINTED TOUGHENED GLASS - 96hrs

EXPRESS CHARGE OPTIONS -

Every order requesting express service will be charged at £50 + VAT express manufacturing charge to cover extra paperwork, possibility of overtime and additional checks to push this order through our systems.

If you are collecting the goods from our factory, no additional charges will be levied but you must have the labour to load the vehicle without help unless of course we are forklifting a collection into your vehicle.

For organising an express delivery option one of the following 4 charges for delivery will be applied and agreed when you talk to us -

CHARGE 1 - £35 + VAT

If we can place the order into an existing route and made2measure is the courier and there is space for the additional weight on the vehicle this charge will be applied.

CHARGE 2 - £75 - £180 + VAT* (dependent on area and not including A frame option)

If we can place the order safely onto a flat pallet with base dimensions 1100mm x 1100mm and you can take delivery with a tail lift and 18MT rigid vehicle we can send this through the pallet network on a next day service. The delivery cost for this can vary dependent on location from £75 - £180 per pallet.

Another option is to use a pallet A frame which has the same delivery charge, but you would need to buy the A frame for an additional £95 + VAT as well as the delivery charge. The A frame is suitable to take 1MT in weight and a max sheet size of 1500x1200.

Even though this is booked as a next day service we would suggest you allow for 2 days in your planning. The latest lead time on this could be 5 or 6 working days. Please note for more isolated areas like Cornwall, South Wales and North Scotland the pallet network cannot offer a next day service but an "express" service which is normally 3-4 days as opposed 5-6 days.

CHARGE 3 - £200 + VAT

This would be applicable for a made2measure delivery that could not be placed into an existing route planner, but we have other orders we can push through quickly at the same time to make the route viable.

CHARGE 4 - £400 + VAT

This involves booking a dedicated vehicle and driver for the day and is only available if made2measure are the courier and is in an area we cover.

CHARGE 5 - £550 + VAT

This is a dedicated vehicle and is available for very large orders outside of the areas we normally service and reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Mirror feature wall design MW-005

PLEASE NOTE ALL THESE ITEMS ARE DESIGNED FOR SIGN OFF BUT COME FOR SELF ASSEMBLY IN INDIVIDUAL PARTS - THESE ARE NOT ASSEMBLED IN OUR FACTORY BUT RATHER ON SITE BY THE FITTER / CONTRACTOR

We can alter your order by increasing the number of tiles/ frames shown in the design picture and even mixing tints or antique colors if they are the same thickness - so let your imagination run wild! Obviously for walls for example that may be 4m H x 15m W it would not be supplied in the configuration shown.

Any changes to the design picture will need to be agreed and quoted via email and upon final acceptance of our quote we will place a pro forma in your account to then pay online when ready to proceed.

Please note all orders are only passed to the CAD team for drawing and sign off once paid in full. However if once a drawing is supplied and it is for a non standard configuration and upon reflection the design does not meet your expectations we would refund your payment.

STANDARD MIRROR IS NOT SUITABLE AS A SPLASHBACK BEHIND A HEAT SOURCE - PLEASE VISIT OUR TOUGHENED MIRROR SELECTION /toughened-mirrors-suitable-for-splashbacks/

THICKNESS APPLICATION GUIDANCE -

THICKNESS GUIDANCE -

Mirror glass comes in three gauges or thickness - 4mm and 5mm/6mm.

There is no legislation governing the gauge to use when hanging your mirrors on a wall. We offer guidance below but ultimately it is your choice

5/6MM APPLICATION GUIDANCE -

5/6mm mirror can be used in all applications inlcuding domestic use but in our opinion this should be the preferred selection for most commercial applications. There are a few specific instances where 4mm may be more suitable but this is predominantly to reduce weight i.e use on wardrobe doors and limiting the stress on hinges.

5/6mm mirror is stronger than 4mm mirror glass and therefore is more robust and less likely to damage in a commercial and potentially more challenging environment.

5/6mm silver mirror glass is not prone to "flex" which could cause distortion in the reflection when mirrors are adhered to an uneven surface.

5/6mm mirror with safety backing is suitable to use with our most popular installtion solution of j channels - see 5/6mm extras later in the buying process and also visit the how to guide section for more details on how they are used.

A majority of insurance companies now demand 5/6mm mirror glass in commercial situations for liability insurance and all commercial building specifications and drawings that we receive from architects and professional specifiers state 6mm as standard. For peace of mind in our unfortunately litigious world, we consider the use of 5/6mm mirror as the only sensible and viable commercial choice for businesses without well considered mitigating circumstances.

Wall of mirrors
When building a wall of mirrors you really want to select our standard polished D edge finish as the mirrors will be safe to the touch in terms of safety and will butt together nicely. SEE POLISHED D EDGE

Own frames / rebates
If you are building your own frames and the mirror edges are protected within a rebate, you can select raw cut edges but beware you must wear protective gloves and the edges are not safe as they are potentially very sharp to the touch. This solution is not suitable to safely hang mirrors next to each other with no rebate. Generally this is used for glazing a mirror frame, or we sell this to carpentry companies for use in furniture that has a rebate for the mirror itself.

PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR RAW CUT MIRROR CAN "SHELL" DURING TRANSIT SO ANY IMPERFECTION ENCROACHING UP TO 3MM INTO THE FACE OF THE MIRROR IS DEEMED ACCEPTABLE AS IT IS HIDDEN IN THE REBATE - IF YOU REQUIRE "PERFECTION" ON THE EDGES YOU MUST BUY POLISHED EDGES

Bevel edges - Not available for shaped mirrors, only straight edges

We offer two different styles of bevel edge and generally these are decorative and not used when building a wall of mirrors unless for a specific aesthetic purpose. If you do want to butt 10mm bevel together we recommend selecting a bevel with D edge. Please note we ONLY offer a bevel in 5mm thickness or higher and the only bevel width available is 10mm as shown in the diagram below. This means the 10mm bevel is not wide enough to use within a rebate such as a mirror frame. SEE 10MM BEVEL EDGE OPTIONS and if you want to see a lifestyle image of a 10mm bevel click this link and see our mirror framed Murciano prints - /murciano-diesel-print-mirror-frame2/

MDF mounting board

When you enter your dimensions for the full wall of mirrors to be installed we will supply 15mm MDF that will be cut to size as per the example below meaning there is a 25mm border all around for the LED lighting system to be applied.

The MDF will be painted black on the front and sides so that you can immediately apply adhesive directing to the backing board without further prep work as the MDF will now be non porous.

You will need to use countersunk holes to attach the MDF to the wall so you can then adhere the mirror to the MDF. You will need to create some form of temporary chock for the mirrors to rest on during the 24 hours drying/ curing process to make sure the mirrors do not "slip" a few mm during this process. Another option is to use mirror glue tape with the adhesive.

Please note the largest mirror size we supply is 2416mm x 1500mm so we will calculate from your total length the best size of mirror to use so they are all uniform and the number is odd so that there is no joint line in the centre of your run.

The MDF will all be a uniform height but to offer best value for money the panels may be different widths - we generally only cut the last MDF width panel to size.

LOW MODULUS NEUTRAL CURE SILICON -

If using mirrors or glass in wet conditions or areas where aggressive cleaning products are used such as bathrooms or kitchens, you should place a thin protective seal around the product to create a waterproof membrane to protect the edges of the mirror from those products that could cause harm over time. The sealant must be low modulus neutral cure to avoid potential damage to the mirror itself.

The protective seal does not need to be a thick bead, a few mm is sufficient, and the product we sell is clear. There are alternatives in the market that offer the same specifications but are in a range of colors. The key is to ensure it clearly states on the tube LOW MODULUS NEUTRAL CURE.

Generally we recommend our highest specification mirrors for such applications as bathrooms and kitchen wet areas and this is 6mm low iron copper free lead free mirror. With the removal of these metals the chances of oxidisation and rust over time is greatly reduced.

MIRROR ADHESIVE - Solution can be used in 4mm/ 5mm / 6mm WITH NO SAFETY BACKING

If buying your adhesive elsewhere please ensure that it states MIRROR ADHESIVE on the product you are using. It is vital you check this as people have purchased aggressive adhesives such as "No more nails" in error and this actually eats away the mirror and protective paint backing.

IF IT DOES NOT STATE MIRROR ADHESIVE ON THE PRODUCT DO NOT USE IT REGARDLESS OF THE ADVICE YOU ARE BEING GIVEN!

If fitting with adhesive, the glue acts as a safety film if applied to the entire back surface of the mirror and if the mirror were to break, the pieces will stay stuck to the wall. Please be advised that if using adhesive, it is very strong and you will not be able to remove the mirror if required without breaking it and then scraping it off the wall. YOU MUST BOND YOUR MIRRORS TO A NON POROUS SURFACE E.G. MDF IS POROUS SO WOULD NEED TO BE EITHER PAINTED OR PRIMED FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING YOUR MIRROR INSTALLATION.

It is probably the strongest selection, so good for schools or areas with young children.

Each mirror glue tube we supply is enough to hang 33kg safely - the weights of all our products are displayed during the ordering process.

Visit our how to guide section for access to a downloadable PDF on how to hang with adhesive.

PROS
- Very easy to install
- Very strong and safe solution
- Cost effective

CONS
- Mirrors cannot be moved in the future
- Difficult to replace broken panels as it is difficult to scrape broken mirrors off a wall safely and cleanly without closing the area off and there is a small chance you could damage a mirror positioned next to it.
